Karate's sister martial art is "kobudo" - ancient weaponry. For as long as Martial Arts have existed, weapons have been incorporated into the study and mastery of these arts. Kobudo is the traditional Okinawan practice of armed martial arts practice. The weapons we train in are tombo, bo, sai, nunchaku, tonfa, and kama.
Each week, Zanshin Dojo students enrolled in a regular training class, who have achieved their yellow belt or higher, are welcome to participate in this class. Additionally, we have a monthly Kobudo training seminar one Saturday each month, where we'll train with kobudo expert Kyoshi Mike Woodworth from London, Ontario.
All Kobudo weapons are available for purchase through the Brio Boutique. Kobudo training is an excellent opportunity for our students to enhance their Martial Arts practice, and the study of these weapons is deeply rooted in Japanese and Okinawan history.
* As a result of COVID-19 precautions, we will not start our Kobudo classes in September 2020. We will notify students when we will resume Kobudo class.
